Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • hand mixer
  • skillet
  • slotted spoon
  • baking sheet
  • Candy thermometer

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, blend 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with ½ cup of powdered sugar using a hand mixer on medium speed until completely smooth and creamy. Optionally, add a splash of vanilla extract.
  2. Lay a wonton wrapper flat on your work surface. Place about ½ teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper and moisten the edges with water. Fold diagonally to form a triangle and seal the edges.
  3. In a deep skillet, heat enough canola oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F. Monitor with a candy thermometer.
  4. Carefully add 3-4 wontons to the hot oil and fry for 45 seconds to 1 minute until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
  5. For a healthier option, preheat your oven to 375°F, arrange the filled wontons on a greased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or air fry at 370°F for 7-8 minutes until crispy.
  6. Serve warm. Pair with chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping.
