  • 8 slices ham or cooked bacon for a smoky twist
  • 1.5 cups Swiss cheese shredded

  • 1.5 cups milk whole or 2% preferred
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard Dijon mustard recommended

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Cube half of the bread slices and layer them at the bottom.
  3. Add ham slices over the cubed bread, then sprinkle half of the Swiss cheese on top.
  4. Whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Pour half of the custard mixture over the layered ingredients.
  6. Cube the remaining bread and layer it on top, followed by ham and the rest of the Swiss cheese, then pour the remaining custard.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before serving, optionally drizzled with more maple syrup.
