  1. Prepare the egg mixture by combining 4 egg yolks and ½ cup of sugar in a medium bowl. Whisk on high speed until thick and pale yellow, about 3 minutes.
  2. Gradually mix in ¼ cup of dark rum and ½ cup of freshly brewed espresso to the egg mixture. Fold gently until combined.
  3. Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until smooth and glossy.
  4. Dip 24 ladyfingers quickly into the remaining ½ cup of espresso and layer them in a 9x13-inch dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and remaining mascarpone.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 24 hours.
