  1. Start by peeling and slicing or grating 1 to 2 inches of fresh ginger root.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil.
  3. Carefully add the sliced or grated ginger to the boiling water, stirring gently.
  4. Allow the ginger to steep for 5 to 20 minutes, depending on desired strength.
