Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 1 pound Ground Beef or substitute with ground lamb
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup Rice white rice, pre-cooked brown rice for better texture
  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano fresh or dried
Crust
  • 1 package Phyllo Dough keep covered with a damp cloth
  • 1/2 cup Butter or olive oil for brushing
Topping & Seasoning
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley or Dill for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté finely chopped onion for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, about 7 to 10 minutes.
  4. Mix in uncooked rice, tomato sauce, oregano, salt, and black pepper, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Brush melted butter on the bottom and sides of the baking dish.
  6. Layer 5 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each with melted butter.
  7. Spoon the filling evenly over the phyllo and smooth it out.
  8. Cover with another set of 5 phyllo sheets, brushing each one with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving, garnished with parsley or dill.
