Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place a cast-iron skillet on the stove over medium-high heat, add olive oil and heat for about 2 minutes until shimmering.
  3. Add sliced Italian sausage to the skillet, sauté for 5–7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Toss in sliced onions and bell peppers, cook for an additional 8–10 minutes until onions soften and peppers are tender.
  5. If using cheese, sprinkle mozzarella or provolone over the dish and let it melt for a few minutes.
  6. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 10–15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Allow to rest for a couple of minutes before serving. Enjoy with fresh herbs or additional cheese, if desired.
