  • 1 pound Ground Beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 pound Ground Pork or replace with additional beef or turkey
  • 1 medium Onion can substitute with shallots or omit
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs whole wheat breadcrumbs can be used
  • 1/2 cup Milk use plant-based milk for dairy-free option
  • 1 large Egg or substitute with flaxseed meal or commercial egg substitute
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce replace with soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • to taste Salt adjust based on dietary needs
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder or adjust with garlic salt as alternative
For the Topping
  • 4 cups Mashed Potatoes swap with mashed cauliflower for lower-carb version
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese try mozzarella for milder taste or pepper jack for spice
  • 1 cup Cooked Bacon can use vegetarian bacon or omit for plant-based version
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Green Onions substitute with chives or omit

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking dish and press evenly to form a layer.
  4. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat layer.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes, followed by crumbled bacon.
  6. Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes until cheese is melted and golden, and meat is cooked through.
  7. Allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
