Step-by-Step Instructions for Baked Apple Pie Donuts
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 6-cavity donut pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly frothy.
- Carefully fold the wet mixture into the dry mixture using a spatula. Once combined, gently fold in the diced apples.
- Transfer the batter into a piping bag and pipe it into the donut pans, filling them about three-quarters full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the tops spring back when touched and are golden brown.
- Cool the donuts in the pan for about 5 minutes, then invert them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk for desired consistency.
- Once cooled, dip the tops of the donuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Let glaze set for a few minutes.
- Serve the donuts warm with coffee or apple cider and enjoy!
