Step-by-Step Instructions for Baked Apple Pie Donuts
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 6-cavity donut pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Carefully fold the wet mixture into the dry mixture using a spatula. Once combined, gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. Transfer the batter into a piping bag and pipe it into the donut pans, filling them about three-quarters full.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the tops spring back when touched and are golden brown.
  7. Cool the donuts in the pan for about 5 minutes, then invert them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk for desired consistency.
  9. Once cooled, dip the tops of the donuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Let glaze set for a few minutes.
  10. Serve the donuts warm with coffee or apple cider and enjoy!
